Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much
Hellen Keller
Community is an integral component to having a happy and healthy life. If we didn’t believe this fact before the pandemic, this truth was highlighted for everyone over the past two years as we experienced isolation and distance from others. Having people in our lives – those with whom we truly feel safe and whose presence we deem as support – contributes directly to our overall well-being. I know you can all relate that this is an incredibly powerful and beautiful truth to being human.
Convening with people and cultivating community is a gift I’ve been able to share and inspire in others through my work at The Dailey Method. Each time I walk through the doors of my own studios, other TDM locations and even other various fitness-based environments, I am overcome by the importance and comfort that community provides for so many individuals. It’s a feeling of having people around you that want to share the same experiences as you do, who are passionate about a similar lifestyle and where their company, ultimately feels like home. The familiarity becomes an environment where I feel completely seen and unconditionally safe. I truly believe that everyone on this planet desperately needs this sense of safety each and every day in order to thrive. After all, becoming part of a greater whole, creating moments that lift us up, providing connection to one another, feeling happy and getting stronger whether it’s internal, external or both – is a way for us to co-author fulfilling experiences in our lives.
I’ve heard the following sentiments from people many times over the last year:Â
“The Dailey Method has saved me through this pandemic”
“Thank you for showing up every day so that I am inspired to do the same”
“I don’t know what I would do without this practice, it’s been an incredible support for my well-being”.Â
I’m filled with gratitude that I am able to help others create connections and community in a space where they truly feel like they belong. A place where they get to grow, laugh and become stronger TOGETHER.Â
Strong communities are critical because they’re an important source of social connection and a sense of belonging. Participating in a community bonded by attitudes, values, and goals is an essential ingredient to enjoying a fulfilling life. Community has even been said to be the foundation of success. Success doesn’t have to be viewed as what you’ve accomplished professionally, it is how you show up in your life, how you feel each and every day and how you are an integral part of the well-being of yourself and of others around you.
Here are a few ways to discover and elevate community in your life:
- Search out environments where you feel a connection. This could be an exercise studio, an organization you join, a meditation or breathwork class or even a local cafe. Search for where you feel comfortable and embraced.
- Champion on others. Tell the people around you how much you love them, that you’re there for them and let them know when you need them.Â
- When you meet someone you feel a connection with, include them in your plans. Ask them to join you for a class that you love, or invite them for a walk or cup of coffee.
- Start a conversation with someone standing in line near you or ask the store clerk or barista how their day is going in order to cultivate a connection with them. The power of this to shift the trajectory of your day and theirs spreads ten-fold!
Lastly, and a quick reminder that March 8th is International Women’s Day. What a fantastic way to celebrate community by calling out the strong, powerful and brave women you know that have started their own businesses, their own missions and passion projects. Connect with them and share how much you admire and appreciate them!
And if, during the month of March and beyond, you still crave community and seek the support of celebration in numbers, we’re here for you! Come as you are. We are ready to embrace you!
With a hug, a fist bump and love,
Jill
