Summer is finally here! Defined for me because the kids get out of school today. Summer is supposed to mean long days and warm nights, but really means that your kids are around all the time! If you know me, you know that I am highly uninformed about current television shows, but I do find that sometimes I just need a little ‘me time’ that involves doing absolutely nothing – which translates into occasionally indulging in television. Here’s a list of my favorites!

Transparent

Jill's Summer Watch List l The Dailey Method

This show is about an LA family with “some” issues. A dramatic confession spills out by one and creates an avalanche of exposés from the rest. I started this show the day I broke my ankle last September and finished the whole series in 5 days. I think I cried from loss when it ended. It’s brilliantly funny and thought provoking.

Modern Family

Jill's Summer Watch List l The Dailey Method

Need I say that this is one of the best comedies on television?! It will surely replace Seinfeld to relate current life experiences – “this is exactly like that time when Cameron…”.  It’s about the lives of three related and complicated modern day families. It touches on parenting, relationships and stereotypes – and sometimes I laugh until I cry.

Once Upon a Time

Jill's Summer Watch List l The Dailey Method

When you have children that are different ages, different sexes and have crazy different personalities it’s challenging to find something everyone agrees on. This one has worked for all of us for a few years and is one of our weekday highlights. It jumps back and forth between modern and historical time and weaves in almost every fairytale and storybook character imaginable. I think I like it more than them because it’s an opportunity to snuggle with my kids on the sofa.

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland

Jill's Summer Watch List l The Dailey Method

This was a one season spin off of Once Upon a Time that focuses more on Alice in Wonderland. We loved it because we had 2 shows a week (twice the snuggle time!).

Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce

Jill's Summer Watch List l The Dailey Method

This show follows a best-selling author of a self-help book series who begins by secretly hiding her separation from her husband as she navigates her life as a single woman in her 40’s in Los Angeles. She starts to side with, and take advice, more from her divorced friends than her married ones and it leads to some unexpected and life-changing experiences. Touché for me to recommend right now? Maybe? But this show really is honest, funny and quite glamorous – and their wardrobes are fantastic!

Empire

Jill's Summer Watch List l The Dailey Method

So much exciting drama in this show! It’s about the patriarch of a hugely successful music business, his ex-con wife and his three very different and talented sons. It reminds me of Dallas (uh, oh did I date myself?) and was a great inspiration for my playlists!

What are your favorite shows? I’d love to hear any recommendations.

Happy watching,

— Jill
