We believe in the importance of research, and appreciate that you do too. Below you will find some answers to questions we get asked a lot. We hope you won’t hesitate to let us know if you still have questions.
Non-impact, weight-bearing exercises are the most efficient movement for muscle strength. Physical results come quickly because muscles respond naturally to this approach. Added to our obsession with healthy neutral spine position, and our focus on education and individual attention, and The Dailey Method is like nothing else.
You will feel it on the very first class. Come three times per week, for six weeks and you will experience a significant increase in strength and flexibility and notice improved tone in your body. Greater results are achieved with more frequency per week and continuity over time.
Anyone interested in improving their fitness level; including increased strength, flexibility, stamina, better posture and body awareness are welcome. Our students range from 14 to 75 years old.
The Dailey Method provides deep, efficient muscle fitness—without a direct aerobic element. However, more advanced students keep their heart rate elevated as they participate more vigorously. Many of our studios offer Dailey Cycle, for those who want to add extra cardio to their fitness routine.
Yes, The Dailey Method is a very safe form of exercise. It is based on orthopedic movement and is devoted to the most current research. All of the exercises emphasize proper alignment and form. Through our careful instruction, the ankles, knees, hips and spine are strengthened and stabilized. Students who have come to us with previous injuries have been amazed at the speed of their recovery.
Yes, The Dailey Method is a very safe workout for pregnant and postpartum women. Many of our students, including Jill Dailey McIntosh, have attended classes throughout their pregnancies. A few minor modifications make this class a very thorough and effective workout to help you look and feel your best. Please note that a written consent from your doctor is required.
Your core is the powerhouse where all efficient movement begins. Regular conditioning of the core muscles is vital for supporting the back and preventing injuries. Correcting posture ensures the best functional movement patterns. The abdominal muscles are a primary part of the core, so The Dailey Method classes emphasize strengthening the abdominal muscles from start to finish.
The Dailey Method is a total body workout. It works you out from the end of your nose to the tip of your toes. After intentionally setting proper alignment every muscle group is taken account, strengthened, and stretched to give you the workout of a lifetime!
Wear comfortable clothing that you can move in. Preferably not too loose or baggy so teachers are able to see your alignment/form. Socks are required.
“After “retiring” from national and collegiate athletics, I struggled to find a workout regime that kept me as toned as the hours I had spent in training. A co-worker introduced me to Dailey Method, and I was hooked after the first class.”– Janis, Calgary
“Simply put, Dailey Method boosts my mood and strengthens my mind and body. Thank you, Dailey Method for continuing to provide challenging classes and motivating me to look and feel my best.”– Kim J., Chicago - Bucktown
“Today I was looking in the mirror at The Dailey Method Mission-Castro & I felt beautiful. The atmosphere of acceptance for who I am made me feel that way both inside & outside.”– Barbara L.M., SF - Mission Castro
“The isometric movements and breathing prepared my body for childbirth. Although my body changed dramatically from being pregnant I am toned in places that I never was before. I am so grateful to have found TDM when I did.”– Kelly Eshelman, Venice
“Open up your heart”…these are words spoken by the dedicated and energetic teachers during the Dailey Method class. This is a philosophy I try and practice in all aspects of my everyday life. What I also love about this statement is the thought of opening your heart to becoming a better person; physically, mentally and spiritually. The Dailey Method is a one hour class that has created a positive impact on my life, mind and body. My days are brighter and more energized after accomplishing a class. I feel stronger, leaner and happier. I have been attending the classes for over two months and I cannot believe the changes I see in myself. It is pure bliss! I am so blessed I have found a practice I genuinely love and look forward to each day…that is not an easy task! It is challenging and always exciting!
“I feel gratitude for the magnetic and positive teachers at the Dailey Method for connecting with each one of us to ensure we are doing our very best!”– C Swift & M Selke, Indianapolis
“I first came to The Dailey Method two years ago kicking and screaming courtesy of my wife, Anne, on a date class. She had been attending for quite some time and thought I would enjoy it, plus it would be a workout we could do together. Not a chance I thought. After the first session I knew this form of exercise would be a benefit to me. At 6’9” and 64 years old (next month) my goals are to improve posture, balance and core strength.. I enjoy exercising with Anne and, for the most part, my goals are seeing some improvement. The staff is great, from front desk to each and every teacher to Michelle herself. I actually look forward to my workouts. I also feel I’m an inspiration to other people because they can take solace in knowing they aren’t the worst one in class as long as I’m present. Anne was correct as always, I do enjoy me some Dailey Method.”– Don Ford, former player in the NBA
I am sure you get plenty of feedback on how your classes have done wonders for students’ overall appearance, core strength and flexibility. What I am not sure you are aware of is what you do for students like myself on the inside. Two years ago when I started classes, I found myself in tears because I felt soooo good from the inside out. I was so excited to have found an exercise program I truly enjoyed and worked me hard at the same time. It prepared me for a tough year ahead that I did not know was coming. A year ago, my family went through some devastating times. It was serious, but thankfully, we are in a much better place and I am hopeful. The only thing I could get myself to do aside from the day-to-day was go to TDM. It kept me from falling apart and I was able to work out an incredible amount of anger in thigh work. I also sought comfort in running but it didn’t compare to going to class and, for one hour, being able to concentrate on myself. It is clear to me how passionate you are about what you do and I want you to know how you have helped me (and countless others, I’m sure). I always tell my kids that its important to be kind because we never know what someone else might be going through. TDM has been kind to me.– Meg, Naperville
